I have spent the last three and a half years working from home. I made good money – sure, but not the income I wanted to make. It wasn’t exactly all my fault. But I don’t regret the lessons that I have learned, in fact, I wouldn’t replace the lessons, the friendships, and the growth that I experienced for all the tea in China.
I think most people go into Relationship Marketing thinking the income will come overnight. Well… it can happen, but not to the average person. But the reason I love this business so much, is that average people CAN make above way average incomes. And better than that… ordinary people can achieve extraordinary success... but it takes time.
People today – all they say is, “I don’t have time.” This really gets me going, because just WHO is in charge of time? THEY ARE!! People that let time control them are destined to be it’s slave for eternity. Sure, we are all guilty of letting others manipulate our time because we don’t know quite how to say NO. And I know that I am guilty of getting lost in surfing the net for hours when I could be doing something productive.
Another thing folks say, “I don’t like selling.” Well – duh! Does anybody REALLY like selling? No! Show me someone who likes selling and I will show you someone who is broke. Selling is not the basis of ANY job, stay home or otherwise. It is about relationships. Period!
The best one is, “It’s a pyramid scheme.” Huh? What exactly is a pyramid scheme folks? You mean, like our government? Our school system? Our corporate structure? What is the Sam Hill is a pyramid scheme? If earning an income from home had any other rap than that of this mysterious misnomer, I would have to say that it would be the number one career choice in the world!
Get over the pyramid thing – it doesn’t sound cool, because if you continue to find reasons NOT to make a move – guess where you will end up? Yup – right where you are! And if you are HAPPY with where you are financially and with the amount of free time you have… well, then that is fine… stay put!
I have seen people’s incomes in this business go from $70 a month, to $170 a month, to $1,700 a month, to $17,000 a month, to $170,000 a MONTH working from home.
These are the people I am partnering with now. I figure – if you’re going to follow someone, you may as well follow those who achieved the kind of success you are after!
What is key when you are looking for a home business is to ask, “Is it strong enough to support your growth?” You see… it IS possible to outgrow a company. If you are a strong builder and you can build tall buildings with your efforts, it would be a good idea to make sure the foundation is not made of quicksand.
If a company claims to be debt-free, don’t throw up your hands in the air and rejoice. I recommend you investigate further by asking, “What type of capital to you have for growth?” Don’t assume debt-free is good. Debt-free could mean no investment capital available to spur things ahead when it is most needed.
If a company touts an amazing compensation plan, be sure that it pays for product sales AND for building the business. Don’t get stuck selling products day and night and never achieving that residual income! Heck, if you had to do that, you might as well opt to sell big ticket items like cars, houses, boats or pieces of the moon.
Beware of companies that say, “We are not in this for the money,” because they MEAN IT! If you are all about the rosy mission of something – great! But most people don’t start a home business to become a volunteer – or worse, a volunteer who pays to go to work. Being mission oriented is not a bad thing – but remember, being stinkin filthy rich is not a bad thing either! Look for companies that believe BOTH!
And last but not least – look for a strong sponsor. Strong does not mean having lots of experience, nor does it mean having lots of time to train you … what strong means is “Do they have a desire to earn a lot of money?” If so – great! They will understand that you are an asset and they will work WITH YOU to build an empire. But if they are just dabbling around to get product discounts…they will not lead you anywhere you want to go.
If I could share any ONE SINGLE PIECE OF INFORMATION that I think is the most crucial in picking a home business it is this… Do they care about you? I mean… the company. Do they see the representatives out in the field as the assets or do they see the products as the assets?
You see, the products should be only the commodities. The products must be good, yes, but products should not be the main focus of the company. Products are expendable. Products do not have dreams or goals… they are merely a vehicle to help representatives achieve dreams and goals.
Do your due-diligence and you WILL find a company that is right for you! It sure beats working for da-man and being told what to do, when to do it, what to wear, what to say… aye!
Wishing you all the success you seek!
